I’ll admit up top that I’ve really been looking forward to this. Last year I decided, a bit on a whim and a tad too late, to throw together a bracket tournament of Sioux Falls restaurants on this blog and let the readers vote for their favorite.
Three weeks and tens of thousands of votes later (seriously, wow!) we crowned our inaugural champion: Queen City Bakery.
For our second year, I decided to switch things up a bit and loosely break the field into ‘regions.’ Geographic didn’t make much sense to me, so we went with thematic regions: Fine/Casual, Ethnic Foods, Breakfast/Chicken/Stuff and Pizzas/Burgers/Sandwiches.
[VOTE now, below!]
You’ll see heavy hitters like Sushi Masa and Tomacelli’s, along with last year’s champion and runner up Wild Sage Grill grab top seeds.
We have some newbies in the field like All Day Cafe and Mama’s Phried and Phillys, and some favorites that didn’t make the bracket last year like Pickle Barrel.
Risers like The Attic, coming of a surprise Final Four performance last year, grabbed higher seeds. Others, like Bros Brasserie came into the tourney a little down and maybe poised for some upsets.
And same as last year, no chains. Other than the occasional regional chain entry (looking at you, JL Beers), this is a local product!
In all, this bracket voting is meant to be fun, spark discussion on food (my favorite topic) and celebrate the great food city that is Sioux Falls.
So get in there and vote already! Below are links to the four regions, as well as the tournament schedule. You’ll find the polls there, along with some attempts at witty and fun breakdowns of the match-ups. At the bottom of each page, you’ll find links to the other three regions as well.
And let me know what you think about the bracket! Who should win? Who got snubbed? Who is your dark horse?
Good luck to all, and have fun. (And share with your friends of course! PLUG!)
