Missed breakfast, but tacos at El Jalapeno were yummy

I intended to hit up El Jalapeno, the new Mexican restaurant in the Southway Shopping Center on South Minnesota Avenue, for breakfast this weekend. Unfortunately a series of events kept us from showing up until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, and I missed my chance for a breakfast burrito I was so looking forward to. Another time.

But I did get a four-taco plate (one chicken, one seasoned pork, one chile verde and one chorizo) as a consolation prize.

And I have to say: those tacos were yummy.

I know, I know: ‘yummy’ is a pretty technical food term. And while I don’t usually use such highfalutin language on this blog, I really enjoyed the food at El Jalapeno. The chile verde, specifically. Followed by the chorizo, the seasoned pork and the chicken. They have the regular choices for toppings (I went with cilantro and onion), and the pickled peppers and carrots were delicious, but the hottest I’ve had in a long time. A little goes a long way. The hot sauce heavy on the vinegar and tangy. I liked it.

The place is cash only, also serves hand-scooped ice cream and, as mentioned above, is open for breakfast starting at 7 a.m.

Has anyone tried the breakfast yet? Any other thoughts on the food? Hit me up!
