I’m not normally a jealous person, but when I saw that friends Elisha and Bridget (Elisha is also a colleague) were at Bros. Brasserie Americano earlier this week, AND they were trying out “the new menu,” I will admit to some envy.
I was just there on Thursday night, and the menu was the same! My mind started to wander on what new creations might join the fray. What if they got rid of the Pork Belly dish?! I momentarily had a stab in my stomach, but it passed when I realized they would never do that. It’s too delicious and too popular.
Turns out, the mystery bugged me enough that I went down for dinner at my earliest convenience…last night.
The menu has changed, but you’ll still see some favorites like the Pork Belly (phew!), Duck Tacos and Shrimp and Grits. They are preparing the Hangar Steak differently, have added a Ribeye and a Pork Tenderloin, as well as a Duck Noodle Bowl that I almost ordered, a seafood pasta dish and a Scallop Risotto. I went with the Risotto and was very glad I did.
The risotto itself was fine. Firm, smooth and binding together with the marscapone, toasted almonds, butternut squash and pancetta, it was a fun, flavorful base. The menu says it also has a mild curry, though it must be extremely mild, as I didn’t pick up any curry flavors in the dish.
That might be because I was too busy loving the pan-seared scallops on top. Four large and wonderfully cooked scallops, a great golden brown buttery sear on top, cut just fine with a fork and darn near melt when you take a bite.
This is something you should order.
I added a Dark Horse Amber Ale (made with some Belgian yeast that gives is a bit more zip and fun than a Fat Tire Amber), which was I really enjoyed, and ordered a slice of the Chocolate Chile Tort (below) for dessert. The tort was really good. A hard dark chocolate top covered the smooth chocolate/chile center and a thin, crisp crust below. The heat from the chile was slight, but after the third bite had built to be quite present. I dug it.
Bros. also updated their lunch menu (which looks awesome and adds a Cubano sandwich among others), and will be releasing a new breakfast menu this weekend. I tried to sneak a peek, but got told no. Oh well.
Gives me something to try in the future. Maybe even this weekend.
