My hunger started when Patrick shared a photo on Facebook of the Huevos Rancheros at M.B. Haskett. I’d eaten at Haskett more than a few times, and have always liked it. But I’d never gone for breakfast, and this picture was haunting.
What looked like a deconstructed version of the huevos I was used to, I still recognized many of my favorite ingredients: avocado, tortilla, eggs, onion, cheese, salsa.
I knew I had weekend plans. And boy, did M.B. deliver.
The mellow vibe, great coffee, room to spread the Sunday paper between Megan and me (plug!), the space is a nice, warmly-lit spot to be in the morning.
And the poached eggs were just outstanding. Wonderful and bursting when broken, the yolk joining the black beans to for the base of the dish.
Put everything together, scoop it up on one of the toasted corn tortillas, and enjoy breakfast and morning the way it was intended. Add a pint-glass mimosa and I dare say you won’t find a better experience to start your day in our fine city.
And if you top the whole thing off with one of the sweet and earthy Nutella Crepes (we did, and WOW!)? All the better.
