In the land of great Mexican food: Still love gross mini tacos

For those that don’t know: I’m not originally from Sioux Falls.
I know; shocking, right? I love it here, and my wife and I have made Sioux Falls our home, but I’m originally from San Diego, California.
And for the first time in three years, I came home for Christmas. It’s the land of outstanding Mexican food. I love me some Jacky’s and some Nikki’s, but the only reason is they remind me of the food back home.
So why, spending the week munching on some of my favorite food ever, do I find myself thinking about the stupid, deep-fried mini tacos available from any South Dakota establishment who orders them off the Sysco truck?
Maybe because I had a bad rolled taco on Sunday at a new place in Pacific Beach. And maybe because they are awesome; that’s why.
Listen: I’m not saying these are a culinary accomplishment of any note. But something about the nearly-burnt mystery meat inside a tiny taco shell app has been hitting the spot for me lately.
I’ve had these beauts at the Trophy Room Lounge in Humboldt (pic, left) and the Baltic Corner. (right)
Get them with sour cream and/or salsa. And enjoy your pre-meal flavor.
What app is better than mini tacos? I say very few, but want to hear from you; hit me up!
